About LMPOA
President’s Message
August 2022
It looks like we’ll be seeing each other at this year’s annual meeting on September 3rd which will take place at the Kirchhoff ranch, starting at 9AM. Although COVID cases are up, it doesn’t seem that the authorities have much of an inclination to impose another set of meeting/gathering restrictions this year. We’ll see…you never know.
There’s lots to talk about at the meeting. We have plans to expand the scope of LMPOA’s responsibilities going forward, and we’ll explain more about that at the meeting. And then there’s the ever-present water emergency that confronts the entire Southwest region of the United States. The water shortage knows no borders. Baja is deep into it (pardon the pun) and it’s likely not to get better
any time soon. The interruption of CESPT water over the past several months was about the longest stretch of “no water” that I can remember. We can expect to see more interruptions in service.
It’s not just CESPT that faces challenges. While CESPT gets water from the Colorado river via a treaty with the United States, there is also the aquifer beneath us that provides water for CESPT. And that aquifer is the same source that La Mision Water Company relies on to provide water for our residents. And the aquifer water levels are going down. Every water source is being taxed. At the meeting, John Stadelmann, LMWC president, will discuss the water crises in depth.
I encourage you to attend the meeting in person since it’s been several years since we’ve been able to advance our agenda items. In addition to elections for the Board of Directors, we also need to review and authorize projects going forward. If you can’t be there in person I encourage you to visit our website and secure a proxy form so that your votes will count.
Hope to see you all…
